As my brother-in-law (Matt) was tucking my 3 year old nephew (Andrew) into bed one night, Andrew grabbed his arm and asked, "Daddy, will we go back to the lake in Michigan?"
Matt replied, "Yeah, we will probably go back next summer, buddy!"
Andrew paused to think about it. Then he responded, "Well, when we do, if you and mommy water ski again, can I ride in the boat with King Herod??"
How funny. What Andrew meant to say was "Uncle Harry".
The reason I share this story (aside from the humor of course) is because I want us to imagine what it would be like to process everyday life through the lens of the Bible.
What if we were so familiar with the Word that it changed how we viewed the world around us, the circumstances we live in and how we interact with others?
Every night before bed, since his birth, Andrew has been read a Bible story.
On the one hand, he has heard the stories so many times that he knows it well. So well in fact, that a Sunday School teacher recently asked my sister if Andrew was available to help teach the class! Yet on the other hand, Andrew is processing his world through the lens of the Bible because of the exposure he has received.
When my cousin's teenage daughter forgot Uncle Harry's name....she called him "Uncle Henry". But when Andrew was processing what had occurred, he immediately turned to the Bible because of it's familiarity.
What are we familiar with? What is it that we pour into our hearts and our minds, intentional or not?
May we be so entrenched in the Word that we, too, process everything through the lens of the Bible....
